How We Work: Your First 90 Days, Step by Step

No mystery and no six-month wait to find out what we've been doing. Here's what happens in your first three months, what we need from you, and what you'll see every month after that.

Book a callGet the free check-up

Before day one: a call, and a plan you can keep

  1. It starts with a 30-minute call. You tell us about your business: the work you want more of, the work you'd happily never see again, the towns you cover and where your calls come from today. We tell you where we think the calls are slipping away and what we'd fix first. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.

  2. If you'd rather see something first, ask for the free check-up instead. We look at whether your calls get answered, how your Google listing compares, whether your website books work, and whether you can tell which ads bring in customers. You get the findings in plain words, and they're yours to use whether you hire us or not.

  3. If it's a fit, we agree on a plan and a start date. There's no long contract to sign. We work month to month from the first day.

The first three months at a glance

Here's how we work with a new client, in three phases. The timing depends on what you already have. A business with a working website and Google listing moves faster than one starting from nothing. timings to be confirmed

  1. Days 1 to 14Set-up, all in your name.

Accounts, phone numbers and the place where every call lands.

  2. Days 14 to 30The first calls.

Ads go live and new pages go up.

  3. Days 30 to 90Cut what doesn't book.

Keep what brings in work, drop what doesn't, and start building reviews.

Days 1 to 14

Set-up, all in your name

What we do

  • Open your Google listing and your ad account in your name, or move them into your name if someone else holds them today.
  • Give every ad its own phone number. Calls ring straight through to your phone as usual, but later you'll be able to see which ad made each one ring.
  • Put every call, text and form in one place you can check from your phone.
  • Turn on missed-call text-back, so from the first weeks nobody who calls you gets silence.

What we need from you

Logins or ownership of what you already have, answers to our questions about your work, prices and towns, and photos of your work.

What you'll notice

Missed calls start getting a text back. Not much else changes on the outside yet. That's normal; this is the foundation everything else stands on.

Days 14 to 30

The first calls

What we do

  • Ads go live for the work you want most. Not every service at once: the jobs that pay well and that you have room for.
  • New pages go up on your website for the services you want to sell more of.
  • From here on, you can see which ad or search each call came from.

What we need from you

Pick up the phone, or have someone who will, and call people back the same day. Tell us when a call turned into booked work, or when it was someone you'd never take on.

What you'll notice

The first calls from the new ads. Some will be great. Some won't. Both tell us something, and the next phase is where we act on it.

Days 30 to 90

Cut what doesn't book

What we do

  • Drop the ads and the searches that bring in price shoppers and people who never book.
  • Add pages for the work you want more of, and for the towns you want calls from.
  • Ask every finished customer for a review, by text, right after the job.

What we need from you

Keep telling us which calls turned into work. That's what tells us where to put the money.

What you'll notice

Fewer calls you didn't want, and more of the ones you did. Google Maps and regular search take longer than ads to pick up, months rather than weeks, but they keep paying off the longer they run. By the end of the third month, you'll know what a booked job costs you and which ads and searches are bringing them in.

What we need from you

Most of the work is ours. A few things only you can do, and the results depend on them:

  • Answer the phone, or have someone who does, and call people back the same day. No ad can book a job if the call goes nowhere.
  • Answer our questions in the first weeks. What work you want, what you charge, which towns, what makes you different. A few short conversations, not homework.
  • Send real photos. Your work, your team, your place. A phone camera is fine.
  • Tell us which calls turned into work. It takes a few minutes, and it's what turns the report from guesswork into numbers you can trust.
  • Give it at least three months before you judge it. Ads move fast; the map and search don't.

What the first three months don't promise

We'd rather tell you now than surprise you later:

  • We can't promise a number of calls. Nobody honest can. It depends on your area, your competition, your budget and how fast you answer.
  • We can't promise a spot on Google. Nobody controls Google's results. We do the work that earns a place on the map and in search, and we show you where you stand.
  • Three months isn't the finish line. The map and regular search keep growing well after three months. The ads keep getting better as we cut what doesn't book.
  • Booked work depends on you too. How you answer, how you quote and how fast you follow up decide how many calls turn into jobs. If something on your side is costing you work, we'll tell you.

What those three months do give you: a clear picture of what a booked job costs, which ads and searches bring in work, and what we'd change next.

Three rules we don't break

  1. No markup on your ad spend. You pay Google or Meta directly from your own account, and every ad has its own phone number so you see what it brings in.
  2. You own everything: website, Google listing, ad account, phone numbers and customer list. We work month to month, and you can leave whenever you like and take it all with you.
  3. We count booked work, not clicks. If it didn't turn into a customer, it doesn't count as a result.

What your monthly report looks like

Once a month you get one plain report. It fits on a page, and it starts with the numbers you care about:

  • Calls, texts and forms that came in, and where each one came from: which ad, the map, your website.
  • How many turned into booked work, from what you told us.
  • What each booked job cost you.
  • Calls that weren't answered, and whether they got a text back.
  • What we changed this month, and what we plan to change next.

No pages of charts. No jargon. If something isn't working, it's on the page where you can see it, and we'll talk about it. That's the heart of how we work: know what works, and stop paying for what doesn't.

After the first three months

The work doesn't stop there; it gets sharper. We keep cutting what doesn't book and putting the money where it does. We keep adding pages for the work and the towns you want. Every finished job still gets a review request, and past customers start hearing from you before your slow months, not after.

You stay month to month the whole time. For the full picture of what we do, see How we get you more calls. The part about never missing a call after hours is under Answer every call.

Questions about how we work

Usually once the ads go live, in the first month. The map and regular search are slower, months rather than weeks, but they keep paying off for as long as they run. How fast it goes for you depends on your area, your budget and how quickly you answer.

More at the start: a few conversations about your work, your prices and your towns, and some photos. After that, it's mostly picking up the phone and telling us which calls turned into work.

Not necessarily. If what you have is in your name and working, we build on it. If someone else holds it, we help you get it moved into your name first. Either way, nothing you own gets thrown away without a good reason.

You'll see it in the report, often before we've even talked about it. We'll tell you what we think is wrong and what we'd change. And since you're month to month, you're never stuck paying for something that doesn't work.

Our plans are $1,500, $3,000 or $5,000 a month, plus your ad budget, which you pay to Google or Meta directly with no markup. See Marketing agency pricing for what decides which plan fits.
